This is Downtown DC’s first combined solar+green roof sited on DC’s first LEED Gold commercial office building. A rooftop solar array lies in a bed of live vegetation that promotes stormwater management, removes CO2 from the atmosphere, and combats the urban heat island effect. This rooftop also hosts a wall-mounted vertical solar array and a solar terrace canopy with bi-facial solar panels, producing energy from both direct overhead sunlight and reflected sunlight from below. The renewable energy-producing canopy provides shade and rain protection as an amenity to building tenants.

This project is a really great and innovative example of how we can take renewable energy and really drive broader benefits for the environment and for our partners – as well as for the community.
