When high-impact nonprofit affordable housing sponsor MHP purchased two large apartment complexes in the Bellevue neighborhood of SE Washington DC with a plan to preserve long-term affordability and prevent resident displacement, they reached out to New Partners to help explore adding solar to Worthington Woods Apartments (394 affordable housing units) and Crescent Park Village (110 affordable housing units). As MHP’s solar consultant, New Partners assisted MHP in exploring solar financing structures to help pay for necessary roof repairs and in designing and implementing RFPs for the selection of third-party solar developers to own and manage the solar arrays.
In addition to working on a project of such impressive solar scale (collectively approaching 1.5 MW), this project represented a new model for New Partners – adding consulting services, owner’s representative services, and creative partnerships with other nonprofits to our traditional community solar development and finance work. New Partners also serves as a Subscription Organization for the project, managing the subscription of Worthington Woods (now known as Unity Place) and Crescent Park Village low-income households into the DC Solar for All program administered by the DC Department of Energy Environment and the DC Solar Energy Utility.
